Searching For Sequoyah is a documentary about the man who invented a written form of the Cherokee language.  The film begins with the familiar story of Cherokee syllabary, but also looks at the much lesser known stories of the Old Settlers, the Mexican Cherokee, and contemporary efforts to revitalize the language.  Choctaw LeAnne Howe, Eidson Distinguished Professor in American Literature at the University of Georgia, is co-producer and writer of Searching For Sequoyah. James M. Fortier, (Ojibwe) is co-producer and cinematographer. Many Native peoples and communities have supported the project. The project was made possible by generous support from the UGA President's Venture Fund, the Eidson Foundation, and Vision Maker Media in association with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
