Ohio State University Press recently published Dr. Lavender’s Afrofuturism Rising: The Literary Prehistory of a Movement. Growing out of the music scene, afrofuturism has emerged as an important aesthetic through films such as Black Panther and Get Out.

Dr. Barbara McCaskill received the 2019 Lorraine A. Williams Leadership Award from the Association of Black Women Historians (ABWH).
