Graduate Faculty

The Graduate Faculty is committed to the scholarly and professional development of graduate students, and this commitment takes a variety of forms.  We steer students toward many opportunities for conference presentation and scholarly publication.  Guidance is available at every stage of study and research, and special care is taken to guide Ph.D. candidates through all aspects and phases of the job market, from preparation of crucial application documents to mock interviews.

English Department faculty routinely win awards for their creative and scholarly writing.  They have earned honors and fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the American Council of Learned Societies, the Huntington Library, the Folger Institute, Harvard University, the Andrew Mellon Fund, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Fulbright Program, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Woodrow Wilson Foundation, the Clark Library, the American Association for University Women, the Yale Center for British Art, the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art,  The American Library Association, the American Poetry Review, the Governor’s Award in the Humanities, the National Consortium of Latin American Studies Programs, the Langston Hughes Prize, the Bibliographic Society of America, and the School of Criticism and Theory, among others.
