Eidson Chair in American Literature LeAnne Howe (Choctaw), along with Professor Christine Kinealy from Quinnipiac University and Dr Padraig Kirwan from University of Goldsmiths of London, have contributed to a documentary from the Famine Institute in Strokestown, Ireland. The 28-minute film is about the Choctaw donation for Irish Famine relief in 1847.  A discussion featuring Professor Howe and others will follow a screening of the documentary on Sunday, May 31st at 2 p.m.  Zoom login information is here.

The documentary recounts the Choctaw donation for Irish Famine relief shortly after the Choctaw people themselves were expelled from their traditional homelands and forced to embark on the Trail of Tears to Oklahoma. It features a musical performance of The Gift in the National Famine Museum at Strokestown Park.
