Undergraduates: Submit poetry for the Virginia Rucker Walter Poetry Prize!

Virginia Rucker Walker Poetry Prize

Undergraduate English majors are invited to enter the annual Virginia Rucker Walter Poetry Prize!

This year, the judge will select a winner and 2 runners up:  $1000 to the winner and $500 to second and third place winners

The competition will be judged this year by poet Julia Anna Morrison.

To enter the competition, please follow the guidelines below:

Each entrant must assemble two different PDF files. The first file contains the poem only. You may only submit one poem. This file should bear no markings identifying the entrant. The second file is a simple cover sheet, containing your name, e-mail address, telephone number, and the title and first line of the poem you're submitting.

Please send both files, attached to a single e-mail message, to Jami Mays, Creative Writing Program Assistant, at this address: The subject line of the message should read, "Poetry Prize 2024."

The deadline for all submissions is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 11th. Results will be announced in mid-April.
