Congratulations to Rahad Abir, an incoming PhD student in the Creative Writing Program on being named the Georgia Author of the Year, in the Literary Fiction and Short Story Collection category for his book Bengal Hound

Rahad Abir is a writer from Bangladesh. He has an MFA in fiction from Boston University. He is the recipient of the Charles Pick Fellowship at the University of East Anglia and the Marguerite McGlinn Prize for Fiction. His work has been translated into French and Hindi. Currently he is working on a short story collection, which was a finalist for the Miami Book Fair Emerging Writer Fellowship.

Bengal HoundA note from the judge of the contest:

"Bengal Hound is authentic and complex, and the storytelling skills on display here are impressive. At times the narrative becomes tight and abrupt, a mirror of what is happening with the protagonist. Overall, this is a vividly imagined, smartly edited novel. "

Georgia Author of the YearThe Georgia Author of the Year Awards celebrates the best literature by Georgia writers.
