Campus Resources

Graduate study can be an emotionally and financially grueling endeavor, and we in the English department are committed to the physical security, mental health, and financial stability of all our students. This webpage aggregates UGA and community resources available to graduate students who find themselves in a precarious situation. Students are also encouraged to contact the Graduate Coordinator for additional department-level aid.

This site was last updated Feb. 2022 to include the Ombuds program. It continues to include COVID-specific resources added 2020.

UGA Ombudspersons

The University of Georgia Ombudspersons are designated individuals who serve as independent, neutral, and informal resources for UGA students, faculty, and staff. These individuals provide information and assistance regarding administrative processes and may serve as additional avenues for resolving the concerns of students, faculty, and staff. See an ombudsperson if you have a problem, concern or issue at work, you don’t know where to go for help, you are reluctant to go through formal channels for assistance, or you need a safe place to explore your options.

Note that the Ombudspersons are NOT mandatory reporters (see below, under Sexual Health and Assault Resources). So if you find yourself in a sexual assault/harassment situation, you will be able to talk with them without necessarily having the incident reported to EOO.
